









Think Museums is a digital project developed by Francis Awinda. Working with Museums, Arts, and the Cultural sector, it was important to develop a platform that would give Museums and the Arts a digital space to share their knowledge. The idea is to document Museum collections and their facets on various digital platforms.

Francis was awarded in 2008 a full scholarship to pursue Postgraduate studies in the African program for Museum and Heritage at the University of The Western Cape, University of Cape Town and Robben Island Museum in South Africa. During his studies, Francis developed a conservation Management plan for World War II Gun Emplacements in Robben Island (South Africa), interviewed ex-political prisoners in Robben Island for his oral history project and researched on the digitization of African heritage using web technology.

As an Information Manager at the International Council of African Museums (AFRICOM), Francis was instrumental in the development and management of the AFRICOM Information Centre which is focused on creating easy access to heritage information for museum professionals in Africa and beyond, Managing the communication section which involves organization and promotion of museums, management of its website, moderating the AFRICOM-L which is an online discussion forum for museum professionals and the Managing Editor of the AFRICOM News magazine with a subscription rate of 1500 Museologists in Africa. Francis ensured the development and publication of the second edition of The Directory of Museum Professionals in Africa and moderated the online AFRICOM Board Elections of 2009 in collaboration with UNESCO Paris.
in 2010, Francis coordinated the Norwegian government-funded AFRICOM’s Exhibition Development and Capacity Building workshop for museums in East Africa, Small grants and consultancy services program for museums, and was a member of the organizing committee for AFRICOM international conferences.

Francis has participated in Museum workshops and conferences in several African countries, Europe, and America.
